Basic Omelette

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk or water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter or cooking oil
  • Optional fillings (e.g., grated cheese, diced vegetables, diced ham, herbs, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Prepare Your Fillings (if using): a. If you're adding ingredients like cheese, vegetables, or ham, prepare them by grating, dicing, or chopping them into small pieces.

2. Beat the Eggs: a. Crack the eggs into a bowl, add the milk or water, and whisk them together until well combined. b. Season the egg mixture with a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper. Adjust to your taste.

3. Heat the Pan: a. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add the butter or cooking oil, and let it melt and coat the bottom of the pan evenly.

4. Pour and Cook the Eggs: a. Pour the beaten egg mixture into the skillet. b. Let the eggs sit undisturbed for a few moments until they start to set around the edges. c. With a spatula, gently push the cooked edges toward the center, tilting the pan to let the uncooked eggs flow to the edges.

5. Add Fillings: a. When the omelette is mostly set but still slightly runny on top, add your chosen fillings evenly on one half of the omelette.

6. Fold the Omelette: a. Carefully fold the other half of the omelette over the fillings, creating a half-moon shape.

7. Cook and Slide: a. Continue cooking for another minute or two, or until the omelette is cooked to your preferred level of doneness. b. Slide the omelette onto a plate, folding it over one more time if desired.

8. Serve: a. Serve the omelette hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or a sprinkle of cheese.

9. Enjoy!
