Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (or a combination of beef and pork)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound (450g) spaghetti
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. Sauté the Onions and Garlic: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Brown the Ground Meat: Add the ground beef (or beef and pork combination) to the skillet. Cook and break it apart with a wooden spoon until it's browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

  4. Add Tomatoes and Tomato Paste: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine (if using). Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  5. Season and Simmer: Add the dried oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Incorporate Milk and Cheese: Pour in the whole milk and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir well and continue to simmer for an additional 10 minutes. This will give the sauce a creamy and rich texture.

  7. Serve: Serve the hot, flavorful Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and more grated Parmesan cheese.

  8. Enjoy: Enjoy your classic Spaghetti Bolognese with a side of garlic bread and a crisp green salad.

This classic Spaghetti Bolognese recipe offers a hearty, comforting, and satisfying meal that's perfect for family dinners or gatherings with friends. The rich, savory meat sauce and al dente pasta are sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Buon appetito!
