: Classic Spaghetti Bolognese
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 1 can (14 oz/400g) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
- 1/2 cup (120ml) red wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 lb (450g) spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions:
Prepare the Vegetables:
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions, minced garlic, diced carrots, and diced celery.
- Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
Brown the Ground Beef:
- Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through.
Add Tomato Base:
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and red wine (if using).
- Add dried oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Simmer:
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally.
Cook the Spaghetti:
- While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Final Touch:
- Taste the Bolognese sauce and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve the sauce over the cooked spaghetti.
Serve:
- Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped basil or parsley.
