Recipe 1: Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese is a beloved Italian pasta dish known for its rich, savory sauce. This recipe combines a flavorful meat sauce with al dente spaghetti for a comforting meal.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces (225g) spaghetti
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz/400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
  • Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground meat over medium-high heat. Break it into small pieces with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Remove any excess fat.

  3. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and the onion is translucent.

  4. Pour in the red wine (if using) and let it simmer for a few minutes until the alcohol evaporates.

  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil or parsley.
