Recipe: Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients:

  • 400g spaghetti pasta
  • 500g ground beef or pork
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 400g canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pasta:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.

2. Cook the Meat Sauce:

  • Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef or pork to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the diced carrots and celery, and cook for another 5 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  • Add the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, and dried thyme to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken to your desired consistency.

3. Serve the Spaghetti Bolognese:

  • Once the sauce has thickened, taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  • Serve the cooked spaghetti pasta on individual plates or bowls, and ladle the hot Bolognese sauce over the top.
  • Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves, if desired.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your classic Spaghetti Bolognese!

Note: You can customize this recipe by adding extra vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the sauce, or by using a combination of beef and pork for added flavor. Feel free to adjust the seasoning and spices according to your taste preferences.
